Maritime Portal

The objective of the project the Maritime Portal of the Netherlands is to develop a central website listing all organisations and institutes interested in maritime history (museums, researchers, associations, etc.) and making them accessible – eventually offering fully integrated access for the general public as well as for those with a specific interest. In 2014, the informal national collaborative project in the maritime domain, the Maritieme Koepel (Maritime Dome), took the initiative to develop a central website: the Maritime Portal of the Netherlands. On 18 November 2016, the website went live. Anyone searching for maritime subjects, events or organisations will find the required information on the portal. New connections will emerge between data, stimulating new research questions. It will facilitate research into maritime history. The initiators deliberately opted for the name Maritime Portal, because the aim is to make the website into a real access portal for all things maritime. The Maritime Portal is being developed in stages, allowing for different parts to be bolted on at different points in time.
