Antoni van Leeuwenhoek – The Collected Letters

The letters of the Dutch scientist Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723) are also his complete scholarly work and offer the only access to his ideas. A part of his letters are translated from Latin to English in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. A comprehensive review of his works however didn’t exist. This edition is an important tool for historians who research Van Leeuwenhoek’s role in the Scientific Revolution, as well as for linguists, specialized in 17th and 18th Century Dutch language. This work is also of use for scientists. Seventeen volumes have been published so far. At the end of 2020, this project will almost have completed volume 18 and is halfway volume 19. The first fifteen parts can be found on dbnl.nl.
