Biography
Peter Boot studied Mathematics in Leiden and Dutch Studies in Utrecht, and worked more than ten years in IT, where he specialized in database technology. In November 2009, he gained his PhD from Utrecht University with a thesis on annotations in scholarly digital editions and their implications for humanities scholarship. At Huygens ING he is working as a senior researcher; his main interest is in the field of online repertoire formation. He researches discussion on literature in online magazines, discussion forums, weblogs, internet bookshops and other online platforms. The central questions here are first the extent to which the way opinions on literature are formed is changing now that the discussion is shifting from printed to online media, and second what these discussions can tell us about how literature affects readers. He is also a specialist on text encoding and XML, and in that capacity he acts as a consultant for various projects, such as the Middeleeuwse Verzamelhandschriften uit de Nederlanden (‘Medieval miscellanies from the Netherlands’) series, and the digital edition of Mondrian.
